The Five Best Things About The PS3
1. The PS3 has the Cell Processor.
This is a dedicated processor especially designed for gaming. It is essentially 8 processors in one. This allows developers to assign specific processors for specific tasks. Multitasking has never been easier than with Cell and it will only grow in its potential.
2. The PS3 plays Blu-Ray.
The PS3 is a gaming system that can play Blu-Ray discs at half the price of just a dedicated Blu-Ray player. What’s not to love? Oh, it also enables a huge increase in disc space which allows for better graphics, AI, map size, and much more. I don’t care what she tells you, bigger is better.
3. The PS3 is Backwards Compatability.
The best part about having a game is being able to play it. Unlike certain competitors, the entire Playstation library is playable on the PS3. Now you can free up some entertainment center space for all those new Blu-Ray movies you’re going to be buying.
4. The PS3 has Sixaxis Conrollers.
I know the directional motion sensing has been done by somebody else. I know the controller now lacks rumble features. But the simple fact that I can hold a normal, dual-thumbstick controller and still be able to affect the gameplay with gestures and motions…well, that’s at least something special, I think.
5. The PS3 has a standard Harddrive.
What!? No more memory cards!? Welcome to next-gen PS3.

1.) And a nice noisy fan to keep it cool… don’t forget that! The power is great, now I can run my Folding@Home program. That’s why I’ve always wanted a video game system….
2.) Great if Blu-Ray wins, otherwise no one will care. If HD-DVD comes out ahead it would be like saying “Playstation 3… now with Betamax!”
3.) Except for the new 80GB model and the European model which feature limited backwards compatibility.
4.) Uhh and? That’s like saying “they kinda sorta did motion control and it’s better than nothing” that’s not a “best” thing. It’s a “Crap, Nintendo’s motion control idea seems to be gaining steam, let’s throw something together quick for the PS3…”
5.) As does the XBox 360. Also, there’s no memory cards for the Wii either (unless you want to consider the SD slot or the Gamecube memory cards)

Dman.. cheap shots.
1. ps3 is not noisy at all. Ask around or browse the net(since you obviously dont have a ps3) before you make such claims.
2. Blu-ray is already winning. Again, use the power of the internet.
3. so what? there will be like 7 ps2 games that it won’t play.. big deal. It’ll still have a great emulator that will be able to play most of the ps2 games.
4. Sixaxis is one of the best controllers out there, it’s dual-shock with enhanced triggers and a lighter body. and guess what, rumble is coming back.
5. xbox360 actually does NOT have harddrive with the core…and with the “ultimate” or whatever they call it.. its 20GB.. wow.. even sony discontinued the 20GB because it was too little. Elite? sure, but Elite is plan B… and plan B admits defeat.
What else you got? and by the way, i refuse to be called a fanboy, all i’ve stated here are facts, just as Chad did above. So you know… cool it off.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:45 pm
1. I do, and it’s loud compared to my Wii, but thanks for assuming I don’t.
2. Yup I do find that… along with as many articles saying HD-DVD is winning. Ever heard of something called PR? People lie in marketing you know…
3. 7 is a number you made up. Furthermore, the author said the “ENTIRE” library. This is no longer true. A minor point, yes, but he is still wrong in his arguments. Furthermore, the software emulation has already been blamed for decreases in quality.
4. That’s your opinion. I find it played out. It’s pretty much the same controller from the PS1. I don’t like it at all. I’m not arguing opinions. I’m saying Sony only added motion control BECAUSE of the Wii. That’s a fact. They admit it.
5. There are actually 3 Xbox editions. The Elite (I assume that’s what you meant by Ultimate?) has a 120GB harddrive. You’re right, the core does not have a harddrive, however the middle version has the 20GB model. The high end has the 120GB model which is 40GB more than the new 80GB PS3.
At least get your facts straight if you want to call them facts.

TO akoustik
Since your coming off as a fanboy type i’ll disagree with this part
“5. xbox360 actually does NOT have harddrive with the core…and with the “ultimate” or whatever they call it.. its 20GB.. wow.. even sony discontinued the 20GB because it was too little. Elite? sure, but Elite is plan B… and plan B admits defeat.”
The PS/3 after 6 months is releasing a new 80 gb version…. I mean you if want to make fun of the xbox for the new system and then PS/3 in a shorter time releases a new sku as wel as a price reduction… That’s more of an admittance of defeat.
I may own all 3 machines but clearly when you use an opinion making fun of a machine look at what your own “console” did….

July 10th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
Notice the 5 things about xbox 360 didn’t have someone smashing all over it?
I own a ps3 and have no complaints about it. Yes there are few good games right now. Yes Sony didn’t launch with large titles to draw sales.
It will live upto it’s potential in the future.
Both systems are fantastic and I want both of them, but didn’t have the money to buy both. So i put money in something I believe will be around for a long time and hopefully will have the technology that lasts.
July 10th, 2007 at 1:55 pm
dude, seriously.
1. ps3 is not loud, and its not MY opinion.. and why are you comparing it to wii? that’s so out of place.
2. PR? I dont want to make assumptions again, since you dont like that. But the fact that blu-ray is winning is not a PR hoax my friend. It is as much a fact as 1+1=2
3. you’re right, i made up 7, but that’s pretty damn close.. and i doubt you have the ENTIRE ps1/ps2 library.. so I dont know what exactly you’re arguing there.
4. It is my opinion, exactly, but it just so happens that my opinion is shared by the majority of the gaming community, who are not fanboys… (no offense).
5. I’m quite aware of the 3 versions, and i think you misread my post. by “ultimate” i meant what you called “middle version”. And by the way, i do think that the elite is actually a decent machine, compared to the earlier versions… I dont have to talk about failure rates, do I?
And what facts did I exactly get wrong?
July 10th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
it if rudiculous
1. PS3 has one of the most quite cooling system in the industry. Comparing it to Wii … Sorry mate Wii has nothing to be hot inside. Only outside, i mean wiimote =)
2. Bluray winning comparing to the number of HD-DVD disks sold and the number of players sold (inc PS3) one to three. It is the fact
3. PS3 and even PAL version do have the backward compatibility. As far as I know it is the problem to run Halo 2 on X360. The list of incompatible games may be expanded even to 70 or 100 titles on PS3 but they are nothing abong total 9500 titles compatible.
4. Sixaxis is just the matter of your prefferences. You may like it or dislike .. anyway there is a number of alternative controllers available. It can be easily replaced even with PS3 mouse like controller. Any other has it?
5. Unified hardware doesnt mean the capacity of your hdd. It means that every PS3s has a HDD. It is handy for developers.
July 10th, 2007 at 2:02 pm
I’d just like to point out that I, the author, do think the PS3 is a good system and it should get even better. I also think that they took most of their cues from Microsoft and Nintendo this time around. So, as of this moment in time, PS3 has fewer “Pros” than the other systems. That will change and the playing field will even out, but that’s the future, and I’m not Nostradamus.
July 10th, 2007 at 2:02 pm
swordv, maybe i was out of line to make fun of the 20GB thing… and I am too not happy with the 80GB thing, it was a dumb idea on sony’s part.
and not that i need to defend myself, but i’m not a fanboy. not even close. I just get frustated when people attack someone’s post as if they just insulted their mother.
July 10th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
hi all!! this is to see if i can send or not!
July 10th, 2007 at 2:10 pm
Well since everyone is comparing.
1) I have a PS3 and an Xbox 360 Elite. My friend has a Wii which is definitely quieter then the PS3. But the PS3 is noticeably quieter then the Elite.
2) Blu-ray has been set as a semi-standard by Blockbuster. Regardless, high-def is going to become the norm in video eventually and it’s going to be either blu-ray or hd-dvd. Blu-ray’s other benefit is disc space, up to 50gb to be precise. While HD-DVD is 30gb.
Also more companies have signed with blu-ray then hd-dvd.
3) I think the PS3 software emulation is better then the Xbox 360 software emulation. PS3 is designed to play any PS or PS2 game, some with minor glitches. While Xbox 360 is designed to download the software per title. Results, more playable titles for PS3 then 360 as far as backwards compatibility.
4) Sixaxis controllers are nice, weight is a bit on the light side. Hopefully fixed when the rumble sixaxis is released. Xbox 360 controllers tend to fill a bit more natural and close to the original controllers of the Xbox.
Who cares if they added it just because of Nintendo? If they utilize the motion sensors in the controller to add more depth to the game then I’m all for it. If not then it’s a waste of adding it to the controller.
5) Both PS3 and Xbox 360 use laptop hard drives. PS3 uses SATA while Xbox 360 uses IDE. PS3 has the clear advantage here. The PS3 uses retail SATA hard drives which can be upgrade beyond the system. This can exceed the 120gb hard drive in the Elite. Xbox 360 hard drives are specific to the Xbox 360 and can’t be upgraded via a retail drive. So your stuck paying Microsoft high prices for an Xbox 360 specific drive.

Dman is Obviously an Xbot Delete fan. This is why your a retard and should not have offspring.
1. The Fan is Silent. That’s just your Vibrator that you left on. Right.. who in the world would want the best processor on the market in their game system.
2. Blue ray was winning before Blockbuster announced going forward they will only rent blue ray videos. Fact - Blue Ray holds more than HD. This being said.. who makes an educated decision and picks HD? you probably do.
3. Like the original 60 gig PS3. Firmware update has fixed this. Its pretty safe to say that Firmware updates will also fix these as well. Besides this is probably on there to cover their asses for the existing few that don’t currently work.. probably ps1 titles. No biggie
4. The wii will lose steam. Everyone that I know that got one is sick of it. Waving that thing around all day gets old. Plus the majority of games that will be good will be 1st party… can’t wait for Mario party 18 and yoshi’s island 22. Seems like the only people playing it are young children. Xbox and ps3 have the right idea with their controllers. And yeah.. it is nice that the ps3 adds a little more. I’d rather a little motion feel then rumbling anyways.
5. This one says it’s a cool feature. Where does it say this is a cool feature that only ps3 has? Thanks for pointing out the Obvious
Well written points from Chat. In none of his points does he attack any other systems. He doesn’t say things like - 1 out of every 3 xboxes will break so have fun with your warranty plan…. Or ps2 is still outselling the 360.
You should buy xbox’s new controller. They’ll be displaying it at E3. The Dildo-rumble controller. You’ll love it.
July 10th, 2007 at 2:17 pm
cool i can comment also!
@DMAN
if ps3 is a bit cheaper and has more games(which is on the way) and has the rumble back(which is on the way) then its better than xbox360 in every way!! accept of course for the 40GB extra in the elite version! but do u really need that extra space give up every thing else??
July 10th, 2007 at 2:20 pm
Five not so best things about ps3
1. PS3 has a Cell processor. Its mostly used in image enhancing machines and also for scientific purposes. Hard to program for games. Not required for gaming console.
2. Bluray. Good for HD movie watching and we are talking about gaming console right? Till date most xbox 360 dvd9 games have beaten the BR games of PS3 in quality . So size does not matter for games if compression is used properly. And to utilize full capacity of BR discs the devs hv to work extra hard and long and the returns may not be there since the lack of user base. Also most games for ps3 have already been delayed and what have come out have the same content as the 360 versions.
3. BC. Cheaper to buy ps2 and ps1 to play games.
4. Since they cudn’t add the rumble due to litigation they added as half hearted attempt to innovate which has already been done successfully by wii. No game has properly utilized it even after 7 months of it being out. Rumble is better for immersion.
5. What does it do for ps3? 360 has 20gb and 120gb models and one without hdd to give choice to the users. All users of 360 can stream movies and other media directly from their pcs to 360s.
July 10th, 2007 at 2:26 pm
i want to know y y y? always the xbox garbage fans always attack ps3?? they made it like a living!! and as a result people who loves sony(i am one of them but am not a sony fanboy) will attack them real hard when and bad thing happens to xbox360!!! and thinks will only get better for ps3!! so they are making it harder on them selfs!! before i never bashed xbox but now i do just because of these stupid people!
July 10th, 2007 at 2:31 pm
sak500,
I agree with most of what you said, with a few exceptions:
the cell prossesor, once understood by developers, will a great tool for physics calculations and it will, no doubt, enhance your gaming experince.
you can’t always compress games to fit a dvd9, especially when we’re getting into the 1080p world. let’s talk about it next year when there will be games that are just not possible on dvd9.
You might be right about the cheaper to buy ps2/ps1 thing (i doubt it), but why do i want all those systems plugged in? That’s ridiculous.
4. you’re absoultely right there, no argument.
5. having unified hdd, as gunnar kindly pointed out, allows developers to take advantage of the hdd and therefore, again, make better games. NOT ALWAYS do developers do that, but i hope so, as a gamer.
I disagreed with more than i thought i would.. sorry about that.
July 10th, 2007 at 2:41 pm
i buy quality and not quantity (haha xFlop’s 1 out of 3) i dont bother arguing since its all the same…just dont regret not getting a ps3 because you will. just so people know, i go to my friends house to play x360 and i have fun, but i wont buy one..having a friend with one is enough for me. just seeing him spend another $800 on consoles that suffers the “ring of death” is enough proof to not buy one.
July 10th, 2007 at 2:54 pm
This is hilarious… I just read the 5 best things about xbox articule and only two comments. It would seem that the Xflop fans like reading the ps3 news more than there own. lol go back to your page tool-boxes
July 10th, 2007 at 3:20 pm
Notice how carefully evasive the 360 fanboys are when it comes to ‘FAILURE RATES’. Here they are arguing that the ps3’s fan is too loud, when xbox 360 is the loudest system I’ve ever heard in my life, and there is a 33.33% chance that due to very poor manufacturing techniques and wretched hardware engineering, your xbox 360 will completely fail on you within the first year of owning it. This is why Microsoft literally ran out of ‘xbox 360 coffins’ aka the box you put your broken 360 in to send it back to Microsoft.
There are literally countless reasons why the PS3 is in all respects a BETTER MACHINE than the 360, and it is all based on fact. Xbox 360 has insane failure rates, uses outdated inferior dvd9 technology for their discs, not to mention it is not streamlined for developers due to the availability of a non-hdd 360 (and this is next-gen?) thus eliminating any potential for HDD required content in 360 games. The PS3 has been a sleeping giant thus far, and e3 will give us all a glimpse at the ‘true’ power of the ps3.
And as far as ‘FORMAT WARS’ go, there IS no format war. Blu-Ray is already the clear leading high def format, and this is continually proven by world wide statistics. Not to mention the theoretical storage capacity of a Blu-ray disc is 200 GB, compared to the theoretical storage capacity of a HDDVD which sits at a lowly 60 GB.
July 10th, 2007 at 3:37 pm
Couldn’t have said it better myself Joe86. Oh man.. what happened to all the xbots with their inferior replies?
July 13th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Wow, Sony is crapping itself with the PS3.
